Edward Frederick Batchelor, the son of Frederick Batchelor of Courland Lodge, Chertsey Road, Addlestone, was born at Oatlands Park in Weybridge. At some point in his short life Edward married Sarah and they lived in Addlestone.
On an unknown date between 1916 and 1918 Edward recieved his conscription notice and went to the Addlestone Recruitment Office, enlisting in the Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment as Private G/7549. By the time of his death, Edward had become part of B company in the 7th Battalion and it was whilst serving as part of this company that Edward was injured and later died of his wounds on 5th April 1919. Edward was 28 when he died. He is buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension near Rouen in France.
Recently Edwards Victory Medal came up for sale and now forms part of my collection, bieng displayed next to the memorial. The whereabouts of Edwards Silver War Medal is unknown
