Robert was born in Addlestone, Surrey, the son of James Collier of 7 Lime Avenue, Addlestone. He married Maud and they lived at 3 Primrose Cottage, Addlestone Moore, Addlestone, Surrey.
Robert enlisted at Guildford Barracks as Private R/095504 in the Army Service Corp. At some point in his military service Robert transferred to the Royal Iniskilling Fusiliers and became Fusilier 42292.
On 03 December 1917, just after the battle of Passchendaele, Robert was near Ypres in Flanders (Belgium) when he was killed in action. Robert was 26 years old when he died. During the course of the fighting Robert's grave was lost and he now has no known grave.
Robert is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial which is located within the Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery in the world. Tyne Cot is near the village of Passchendaele, just outside Ypres. There are 34,874 men listed on the walls of the Tyne Cot memorial.
